About me

I’m Aziz Degenbaev, a 20-year old FIDE Master from Kyrgyzstan with one IM norm. I study Computer Science and play in the UTRGV chess team. I teach in English and Russian.

Playing experience

I’m a multiple-time national champion and Asian youth championship medalist. I won board-one gold at the 2023 World Schools Team Championship U18 with 8/8. I played in the 2022 Chess Olympiad and the World Rapid and Blitz Championships in Almaty (2022) and New York (2024). I won the 2024 Washington Open and shared first in 2025. I’m also the 2025 Seattle City Champion.

Best skills

My strengths are tactics, calculation, and dynamic play. I play confidently against stronger opponents and have scored wins and draws against them. I want to help students build that same confidence.

Teaching methodology

We’ll analyze your games and work on your main weaknesses. Lessons include practical exercises and time to discuss your ideas. You’ll get homework suited to your level and goals.
